Last semester, the Office of Residence Life announced the creation of "The Glowing Gopher," a new award on campus. The intention of this award is to honor one student per semester who exemplifies good citizenship and is a positive role model for the Goucher community.

Students, faculty, and staff members nominated eight students, who were then presented before a committee comprised of representatives from various campus departments and student organizations. This group chose the most qualified candidate.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, drumroll please ... the first ever "Glowing Gopher" is Adam Sigal, '06, of Jeffery house!

Unfortunately Sigal was unavailable for comment but his RA, Linda Jones, who nominated Adam, states, "He is a talented young man who has a warm presence and a light-hearted spirit."

Besides creating a positive environment, Jones also believes, "he has improved the standard of living in his house by being a leader amongst his peers."

According to Heather Koch, Hall and Assistant Programming Director, "The committee was impressed with the way Adam has reached out to the first-year students on his hall. He has befriended them and helped them to become adjusted to college life. It was nice to hear that elected house officers and RAs aren't the only ones making an effort to create community within their houses."

Adam will be formally recognized for his wonderful deeds at the annual Student Leadership Awards reception.

If you know a student who goes above and beyond the call of the average housemate, please send nominations for the spring semester's "Glowing Gopher" to the Office of Residence Life by March 15th.
