First, we would like to clarify some comments from our last column. Josh and I, in an attempt to make a point, took a jab at the Goucher men's tennis team. We meant no harm and want to clarify what we were saying. We weren't sure who the team had beat; a perfect example of the problem that the Goucher sports program is facing. We want more people to be exposed. So, with that in mind, go here!
From that website you will be able to follow any of your favorite Goucher sports teams.
One quick click brings you to a page featuring information on the Goucher men's tennis team. Goucher men's tennis placed third in the CAC Championships this year, and star player Andrew Danos was just one win shy of tying the school record for most wins in a season, accumulating a 22-6 record over this season.
We apologize for any unintended insult to the tennis team.
Moving on. Let's get to AL Champ, NL Champ.
Yankees, Cubs.
Yankees and the Astros. Houston has the pitching to go all the way. Who doesn't want to see Petite and Clemens back in the Stadium getting booed till their ears hurt.
I would rather see them in pinstripes, but you can't have everything. Except if you are a Yankees fan. Another reason I chose the Cubs was because of their hitting, you can't win games with just pitching. Sammy Sosa alone can win.
As long as his bat isn't filled with cork.
Granted the Astros have hitters like Bagwell and Berkman, but five of the seven starters for the Cubs have twenty or more home runs last season. Checking my stats however, the Astros have the same number of starter hitting above 20 HRs.
Huzzah, Astros win.
I like the Cubs' starting three pitchers more than the Astros' though. Prior, Wood, and Maddox are a pretty intimidating trio.
Thing with the Astros is that their #4 man is most teams' #2 guy.
Same could be said for the Cubs, Zambrano has a better ERA than Miller, and they are both their teams' number four pitcher.
The central is the best division in the NL and the Astros will take it.
And the Yankees will win it all.
New York should have gone all the way this year and they couldn't pull it off. We'll see what happens next October.
