Those who were not able to attend Gala this year were in luck, because there was another event planned specifically for all those who did not go to Gala. Alternate Gala, also known as Masquerade Ball, was thought up by SGA president Josh Stober '06 as something for students to do instead of Gala. The Masquerade Ball was held in the Pearlstone dinning room on the same night as Gala, and went until 1 A.M.

Even students heading to Gala who walked by were impressed by the set up of Pearlstone. "The music was awesome!" said Emily Epstein '07 as she walked through.

Not only was there great music, but there were also refreshments and mask making.

"I'm really very happy with how the event went. I would guess we had about 120 people there, which is about the average for a successful Gopher Hole event. Given that our normal SGA dance crowd was at Gala, I was very happy with the turnout," said Stober.

The planning committee for the Masquerade ball included Nancy Welch '07, Julia Pollack '07, Sarah Casper '07, Anna Lehnen '07, Shira Huberman '06, Gabrielle Glass '06, Katharine Kamieniecki '06, Margaret Boss '06, Christopher Sellon '06, Tama Rozovski '07, and Ann Beltz '06. This committee took a week to plan food, decorations, music and advertising. "We owe a huge debt of gratitude to all of them," Stober commented.

"I am really proud of all of us," committee member Julia Pollack stated. "Not only did we do a great job working together, but we also put on this dance under budget."

The crowd at the dance included people in their formal attire and students wearing jeans. "It was wonderful to see everyone together having a get time," Lehnen said.
