Fall is upon us and the days are gradually getting shorter. You may feel saddened and miss the memories of summer frolicking, but all hope is not lost. Fall and winter aren't the end of the fun; if anything they are the beginning. It's your chance to get out there and explore the many possibilities these seasons have to offer.

A few days ago a friend of mine approached me with a concern. "Kent, I've got a problem. I fear that my sportsmanship skills are lacking and I need to get better footwork, but what can I do if I don't play a sport, especially in the fall?" I'll tell you, I was stumped. So I went onto the World Wide Web and researched. After hours of searching I came across an answer. That very day I went to my friend Cheese, "I know what you can do about your problem old buddy. Two words, three syllables: FLAG FOOTBALL."

No words could express his appreciation. From then on I was the guy to consult on fall and winter activities. Over the past week I have compiled a list of these activities that are sure to make your fall and winter a blast.

We're all familiar with playing in the leaves, strolling through the countryside, and rollerblading, but what of sack races? That's right, a simple laundry case will suffice; get a group of friends, and make it an afternoon. Nothing could be more athletic or enjoyable as the competition of a sack race. If sack races aren't your thing, then what about scarecrow decorating? Grab together some old clothes, a bag for the face and get to work. After the body is finished you might want to consider some cosmetic additions such as makeup, eyeliner, or blush. This way you'll have the best looking scarecrow in town.

Another fun activity for your hands is building sand castles. With Goucher's volleyball court set up in a prime location on campus, anyone can experiment with cold sand and damp leaves. Speaking of leaves, did somebody say topiary? That's right. With a basket of dead leaves, sticks, and various other shrubs, you can make your own wreath or decorative fall basket that will really spruce up your living space. Suddenly a snowflake hits the ground, it's winter, what's left to do?
