"This season will be much, much better than last," Kimberley Gordy '06 insists.

The rest of the Goucher Women's Basketball team members, as well as the coach, seem to share her sentiments. And it's not just spirit. They have evidence to back it up.

Head Coach Charleata Neal shows confidence in all of her team members. "We are returning all but 2 players ... We added a nice group of freshmen that are willing to do the dirty work. Our upperclassmen seem to be focused and determined to have a successful season. We are a talented group. We've gained some great perimeter shooters and more size in the post."

"This year should be an improvement on last season and we hope to finish well above .500," remarks Jana White '05. "We also plan on surprising the rest of the conference and when play-off time rolls around we should be towards the head of the pack."

Kate Guggino '05, a team captain along with Shaye Pleasant '05, has good things to say about each person on the team. She even knows the strengths of the three new freshman players. She calls Kiersten "TK" Hickman-Perfetti '07 a "center with lots of strength/height," Maura Fair '07 a "nice shooter with a lot of speed," and Freddie Newman-Blount '07 a "quick, strong, solid player."

Guggino has specific praise to offer the team's upperclassmen as well. She applauds Stephanie Tolbert '05 as a 3-point shooter, citing her "quick drives to the basket." Other 3-point shooters Guggino lauds include Stacy Hollander '06 and Taneisha Osborne '05. According to Guggino, her co-captain Pleasant is a "very intense player," Gordy is "strong on the boards and with post moves," Devon McDermott '06 is a "strong post player," Lauri Parson '05 is a "good ballhandler and nice shooter," and White is a "great rebounder and very fast!"

Guggino also expresses her thanks to all those who attended the recent Midnight Madness event.

"We have a very hard working group of girls who just love the game. We also have three new freshmen this year and Stacy Hollander is returning from her injury last season," McDermott points out. "I think that our expectations are a lot higher because we know that we have enough talent to beat any team in the league and everyone is willing to work hard."

Hollander agrees: "Everyone is working really hard and is ready for any challenge that might come upon us this year. Practices have been tough, but we all know it will only make us and help us better in the end. We are all looking forward to a fresh, new season, and we are ready to win!"
