New policies regulating the annual Get into Goucher Day (GIG) will take effect this year, including a plan to issue wristbands to all students and their guests which will be required to access to GIG programming and other areas to be delimited by a planning committee later this semester.

The new policy was agreed to after several rounds of negotiation between the student life division of the administration and a committee of the Student Government Association's Executive Board.

The negotiations, which began in early December, have produced the general outline of a final document to be distributed via a campus-wide e-mail. However, according to Ayelet Oser '10, the SGA Vice-President for Social Events, the exact language of the document has yet to be determined.

According to Associate Dean of Students Emily Perl, the wristbands, which are at the heart of the new GIG policy and are designed to promote a "more safe and positive" day, will be issued at approximately 2:30 p.m. on the day of GIG. Checkpoints will be set up at each GIG area whereat anyone without a wristband will be turned away. A student may have his or her wristband removed in the event of disorderly conduct or other rule violations.

Restrictions pertaining to non-Goucher family and guests will also take effect as part of the new policy. While family and friends will be permitted to obtain a wristband during the early to mid afternoon, only Goucher students with wristbands will be allowed to attend special events after 5:00 p.m.
